[DevTeam] [Zeke]: I love that I get emailed when someone reports spam on the boards, but I can't do anything about it.
[DevTeam] [Nachonut]: lol i got you
[DevTeam] [Astaldo]: How about "hide email address from public checked" and it's still visible in all my posts...
[DevTeam] [Astaldo]: I'd delete my account on this site, but by the time I realized the problem half the spambots on the planet had it already
[Developer] [Pazza]: Astaldo if you log out and view your profile with a refresh you'll see that your email is hidden.
[Developer] [Pazza]: Your user level on the forums permit you to see emails even though they are marked hidden.
[DevTeam] [Astaldo]: Ah.. thanks for the clarification and apologies for "crying wolf" in that case :
[DevTeam] [Kaidenn]: PAZZA! i miss you.
[DevTeam] [Nachonut]: Lol, it's funny how it takes spam message reports to get me to come back
[DevTeam] [sylvanaar]: Check out the beta tester forum. Need alpha testers and feedback so I can come up with a maintenance plan.
[Developer] [Pazza]: loaded some new spam prevention modules... lets see if this stops the bastards.
[DevTeam] [Maziel]: Thought I'd check in and say Howdy Doody from Australia
[DevTeam] [Maziel]: Yeah the spam from shoes salesmen was becoming insane
[Guest] [Delakando]: What ever happened to the ability to track friend's location by wim? Other then just showing their general zone location.
Zeke pokes his head around the corner.
[DevTeam] [Zeke]: Anybody home?
[Guest] [Theillur]: I would like to know if it is just me.
[Guest] [Theillur]: http://www.wimaddon.com/forums/index.php/topic,1796.0.html

No LUA errors are produced, however after updating WIM from 3.0.7 to 3.0.8 the following abnormality occurred:
It only occurs in combat, and does so consistently.
Here's a screen shot of the effect - what appears to be a failed attempt by something to produce an outer-parameter glow.

Normal:
http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/1995/outcombat.png
Abnormal:
http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/5863/errorincombat.png

As you can see from the 'Abnormal' screenshot, along the outer parameter of the screen there is a slightly translucent frame.  This appears when you enter combat and apparently is a feature of the defualt UI.  However with WIM 3.0.8 it's active when it's disabled in the game's interface option.

Disabling WIM fixes this problem.
I did restart WoW after the update.

This isn't an abnomality, instead it is part of WIM's new Expose feature. It lets you know that your WIM windows are hidden. If you don't like it, you can go into WIM's options (/wim) and go to the Expose menu. From there reduce the border size to 1. I will add an option to disable this notice in the next version.

What would be nice it a note explaining what teh expose feature does IE the boarder. It took me a while to find out what was causing the  annoying boarder and how to stop it.

By the way I absolutly love the add on. thanks to the coders for a great product. I sent off a small donation Smiley

I appreciate the help. The surge in bandwidth on the site when wotlk came out actually cost me over 300 bucks. lol

Anyway, I am adding an option to disable the border. I suppose most people don't read the tutorials I post in-game in WIM. I'm sure most of you disabled them. /shrug. Anyway, it explains expose the first time it triggers.

I will have an update out on tuesday.

Humm, had to try a Mac at my college to see what all this was about and what those weird borders were meant to do.

There are a few issues with the feature:

-It works best when it works for everything, not just WIM stuff. This is something that was basically intended as an OS feature, not as something that only one application uses.

-When I tried it on a Mac, the borders were much smaller.

-The "slide off" effect in Mac OS showed me exactly how it works. No tutorial necessary.

-I think most design experts agree that nobody reads "tutorials" - it has to be self explanatory.

-It probably shouldn't even activate if no windows are on the screen and there is nothing to "slide off." This probably contributed the most confusion of all - since the user sees nothing happening because there are no windows to move off to the sides to visually demonstrate what it is doing, it appears broken, especially if it happens a lot (such as every time the player enters a battle).

-The Mac OS showed a bit of the applications at the edges so you could return easily. Unfortunately, the edges are used a lot in WoW, especially with other addons. Perhaps this isn't the best solution to begin with, or perhaps the user should be able to select which edges it uses.

-Lastly, yeah most of us are Windows users. It's not a normal part of our OS, not even Windows 7. It's also not a normal part of WoW. So only a small percentage of people are going to even recognize the word "expose," much less know how it works and what it does.

Border will be disabled by default. Expose isn't a complete WoW feature. It's for WIM. It was my answer to people asking for a request to hide the windows when you enter combat and show them again when they exit. It's called Expose because it was inspired by the Mac. The border doesn't interfere with other addons because the border is set to level background. meaning it will always be behind everything else.

Now my rants: (Not to be taken personally -- It's my work being critiqued, so yes I get annoyed sometimes)
- People complain way too much.
- No other addon (to my knowledge) did something like this before. It's new and we're all test monkeys.
- I don't care if people don't read tutorials. If they miss something, its their own fault. It's a free software and I can't spend more time then I already do writing documentation that people never read anyway. Laziness/ignorance should never be an exvuse.. and that should be applied to life as well.
- Stop being a noob, get a mac!

I might sound as though I am coming across as crass but seriously, I have answered this topic many times, saying I will remove it on here, comments (on all UI sites). If people don't read first before asking the same questions, there posts will be deleted. Yes it's monday and no I am not in the greatest of moods.

PS: Cobraa1, this is in no way directed at you. You actually took the time out to educate yourself and provide useful information. you're post was simply me getting irritated that this thread has yet another new post. :-)

PPS: Oh yeah... Did I mention, you should really get a mac? Time to grow up people! roflmao

^^^^^
This I agree with Smiley it would have been easier to find the answer if it happened when there were windows there to move. Yes I should read the tutorials but the honest truth is having tutorials pop up all over the wow window can get to be a bit much. They are a good idea and its likley just me that find them annoying I don't know. Personally I like a nice simple Faq or even a note beside the check box "this option makes the funky boarder on your screen when your in battle go away"

Anyways as I said before I love the addon you have done a great job with it.
