[DevTeam] [Nachonut]: lol i got you
[DevTeam] [Astaldo]: How about "hide email address from public checked" and it's still visible in all my posts...
[DevTeam] [Astaldo]: I'd delete my account on this site, but by the time I realized the problem half the spambots on the planet had it already
[Developer] [Pazza]: Astaldo if you log out and view your profile with a refresh you'll see that your email is hidden.
[Developer] [Pazza]: Your user level on the forums permit you to see emails even though they are marked hidden.
[DevTeam] [Astaldo]: Ah.. thanks for the clarification and apologies for "crying wolf" in that case :
[DevTeam] [Kaidenn]: PAZZA! i miss you.
[DevTeam] [Nachonut]: Lol, it's funny how it takes spam message reports to get me to come back
[DevTeam] [sylvanaar]: Check out the beta tester forum. Need alpha testers and feedback so I can come up with a maintenance plan.
[Developer] [Pazza]: loaded some new spam prevention modules... lets see if this stops the bastards.
[DevTeam] [Maziel]: Thought I'd check in and say Howdy Doody from Australia
[DevTeam] [Maziel]: Yeah the spam from shoes salesmen was becoming insane
[Guest] [Delakando]: What ever happened to the ability to track friend's location by wim? Other then just showing their general zone location.
Zeke pokes his head around the corner.

Good morning Pazza and all.

I have a bit of a thought I wish to discuss and see what people think (if it's at all possible that is).

We all pretty much hate gold spammers and can all agree 99.9% of them are level 1 characters and if we could, we'd filter out level 1 character whispers entirely...

...but problems of doing a /who and how often a /who can be done on someone plus the fact the message needs to be sent first before a /who can be done poses issues for filtering level 1 characters out... well according to what I've been reading so please correct me if I am wrong Pazza. Smiley

With the increased amount of gold spammers, and I mean i logged on to day and got about 8 gold spams within my first hour of play.

... I was thinking of some type of hidden net to catch every single message, delaying all messages from reaching us, and WIM going through them one by one at the required blizzard /who pace, performing its filtering and then sending the message on to us if it's clean or above level 1.

Now i understand that this will defeat the purpose of 'instant' messenging, which is why we could have an option to enable this delayed messaging. I am of course unsure of how long the delay in practice would be, but I would most certainly put up with how ever long the delayed message had to be to filter out all level 1 characters from whispering me for ever, and I do not believe i am alone in this feeling.

So the discussion topic is in a way two fold, 1: is a delayed system possible/plausible, and 2: would people put up with 'delayed messages' as opposited to 'instant messages'?

What are the thoughts of yourself Pazza and the rest of WIM users?

Thank you for reading. Smiley

Well Maz, you are on the money in regards to what is required to process such filtering. SpamSentry is an addon in particular which filters spammers and uses such technique.

What am I going to do? Well, I am not going to add this functionality directly into WIM itself. Instead, when I get some extra time to do so, I may create a WIM plugin which will handle such filtering. I feel that it would be a good example to show other coders how to use the WIM API that I have made avilable.

Many of you have been asking for such features and yes I would love to help you. However, for the sake of keeping the WIM project within the realms of what it is meant to do, I do not want to make it a core feature of it in itself.

A perfect and immediate solution to everyone at this point in time is to try out SpamSentry. I have been in contact with the developer and it is confirmed that his latest versions are 100% compatible with WIM. Please check it out. I can not announce a date of release for a WIM Plugin since I do not plan on working on it just yet. There are still some feature sets which I feel are a greater priority which I would like to add.

WIM developement will continue once the 2.1 patch has been release. I am currently doing minor fixes to it based off of the feedback that everyone has left.

Thank you.

SpamSentry, brilliant it is!

I have been using it along side WIM for a while. But SpamSentry does not pick up every single gold seller, and gold sellers are attempting all the time to bypass such things, hence the level 1 suggestion discussion above. Smiley

I do like the idea of you making a temp / example plug in for WIM, so people can get an idea of how to code one up, reading the code and if you have heaps of comments in the code that can help out too. Smiley

Found an addon that allows you to set the minimum level that people can /tell you at, and is compatible with WIM:
