[DevTeam] [Zeke]: I love that I get emailed when someone reports spam on the boards, but I can't do anything about it.
[DevTeam] [Nachonut]: lol i got you
[DevTeam] [Astaldo]: How about "hide email address from public checked" and it's still visible in all my posts...
[DevTeam] [Astaldo]: I'd delete my account on this site, but by the time I realized the problem half the spambots on the planet had it already
[Developer] [Pazza]: Astaldo if you log out and view your profile with a refresh you'll see that your email is hidden.
[Developer] [Pazza]: Your user level on the forums permit you to see emails even though they are marked hidden.
[DevTeam] [Astaldo]: Ah.. thanks for the clarification and apologies for "crying wolf" in that case :
[DevTeam] [Kaidenn]: PAZZA! i miss you.
[DevTeam] [Nachonut]: Lol, it's funny how it takes spam message reports to get me to come back
[DevTeam] [sylvanaar]: Check out the beta tester forum. Need alpha testers and feedback so I can come up with a maintenance plan.
[Developer] [Pazza]: loaded some new spam prevention modules... lets see if this stops the bastards.
[DevTeam] [Maziel]: Thought I'd check in and say Howdy Doody from Australia
[DevTeam] [Maziel]: Yeah the spam from shoes salesmen was becoming insane
[Guest] [Delakando]: What ever happened to the ability to track friend's location by wim? Other then just showing their general zone location.
Zeke pokes his head around the corner.
[DevTeam] [Zeke]: Anybody home?
[Guest] [Theillur]: I would like to know if it is just me.

So, I've been an avid WIM user since before TBC came out, and I've always had the history options set to be unlimited because, well, I guess I just have that pack-rat mentality of wanting to hold on to everything.  Anyways, I went back to look through a chat history and WoW lagged out completely.  I logged back in and got curious.  I checked my history with a good friend whom I chat with quite often and WoW locked up for 5 minutes before disconnecting me again.  I did some more checking, and sure enough, WIM is reading at consuming about 35MB of memory while running, and my WIM.lua file is over 14MB large.  So, while I'd like to clean things out a little bit, I'd also like to somehow be able to hold onto these conversations in a readable format.  So, is there any way to possible isolate whatever method you use to convert a history into plaintext or HTML into an external script of some sort?  Basically I'm looking for any possible method of saving these conversations in some format that I can view later on.

There isn't an external reader no. I was planning on making something for this main reason however. I suggest, loading history (with no users selected) and change the view to either html or plain text. Anything but normal really and then choose the convo you want. I believe the memory problem is due to WoW's ScrollingMessageFrame (aka the chat type box). Using plain text might make things better and be less likely to cause a crash. In the mean time, maybe its a good idea to save a copy of your saved variables and maybe wipe your history.

I specifically added the options in history to try to avoid problems such as these, but i do understand your mentality in wanting to keep everything. As you should if you wanted to. Unfortunately, we dont have data types which are accommodating such as those available in other languages/interfaces.

lol.  I tried that and this time got a full-on program crash

Quote
This application has encountered a critical error:

Not enough storage is available to process this command.

Program:   C:\Games\World of Warcraft\WoW.exe
File:   .\src\lmemPool.cpp
Line:   311

Requested 203709 bytes of memory

Maybe I'll try to throw something together with my rudimentary java skills.

Wouldn't it help in this matter, if you just make an external folder of history backups, with a text file for each user u ever spoke with? (aka export\import history functions)

I personally keep a MySQL database with my WIM history in, i've been meaning to write a front end for it for a couple of months now though, lol
Also - its not veeery often that wow betrays it's language: .\src\lmemPool.cpp :-)

but back to what the topic is about, you can always periodically move your WIM save vars into a backup folder, but the best way of not breaking wow is to use the plain text option in history, the ScrollingMessageFrames really don't like being molested in the ways Pazza does Tongue
