With the release of 2.4 (finally) I can safely assume (hopefully) that Stewarts awesome smilies addon should work now for everyone.

• Now what would be pretty sweet is if a plugin could tie in and make a drop down box to plop them bad boys right into the message.
• Also what would be cool is a buddy list like window (to make WIM more like an IM). Maybe it could combine your friends list and guild list into one or something similar.... I'd try to do this myself but I'm pretty LUA retarded.

Maybe if someone could start me off in the right direction I could try to make the buddy list.

Stewart's smilies can be used for chat and temporarily with WIM. I am currently working on emoticons being built into WIM. Currently, in my dev version it supports about 30 emoticons. I have some more to finish still. It isn't fun converting images to blizzard friendly formats. I am also making it extendible through skins. There are some hickups with the textures which blizz has given us. Mainly layer zordering. But I don't really have control over that. It's nothing to complain about though.

I'll keep you posted as I progress. As of now, I am aiming to release something on Tuesday.

Here is something I noticed. You can link raid icons in chat now by typing {shape}, however the WIM window doesn't seem to handle these (the words show up instead of the symbols). I can get a screenshot if you would like.

i'll be taking wim compatibility out as soon as pazza finishes putting his own in, but i will look into something like that when i'm back in internet land, unfortunately i still havent got hold of a copy of patch 2.4 yet, but hopeefully soon :-)

Yeah stew. To me it seems like an issue of zOrdering with the texture layers.. Unfortunately, we have no way of manipulating them. It is also unpredictable... On some reloads it shows great, on other it over laps.

There also seems to be a problem with fonts in a chat box... Changes seem to require a reload of ui. But not all the time. very irritating.

For example, ClearFont2 wont even change the fonts correctly.

It got no attention at all and tbh I was gonna suggest it as a new thread before iI saw this one 

I would LOVE a smilies Drop Down Box. Of course you got 30 smilies so it might be a good idea to have like only 9 of them appear in the box (9 selected by the user - in a section in the WIM Option window or something of the sort).

I think there might have a great audience to this little feature, don't you?

Already exists. Just right click in the text entry part of the wim window and enjoy your emoticons

Nacho is correct. And if i remember correctly, WIM comes loaded with 50 emoticons. Right mouse click where you would normal enter text in the WIM window. You will get a menu. Hidden feature? not really. Poorly documented feature, absolutely. :-)
