[DevTeam] [Astaldo]: I'd delete my account on this site, but by the time I realized the problem half the spambots on the planet had it already
[Developer] [Pazza]: Astaldo if you log out and view your profile with a refresh you'll see that your email is hidden.

Yep, did you get the latest one I have posted from 2 days ago? Mostly all bugs and issues have been addressed now.

Check out the screenies if you like to see my layout, and yes it is a everyday job keeping it all working properly.

But I havent seen anything even close to having the functionality and class representation that mine does, Like I said I have a 60+ of all the classes 7 of which are level 70s. I have ran couple successful endgame guilds, raids, and PVP alot so I made sure everything was covered, and I keep it fully customizable.

Let me know what you think ;-)

If one does use this modification of the lua file, and then does not have Prat installed, will everything still function fine?

If everything does function fine without Prat installed but with the Prat mods to the .lua file, I can't see why the mod to the .lua file can't be used.

But if it won't function properly with the mods to the .lua file withou Prat addon installed, then I can understand why we shouldn't use the modded .lua file.

Can you tell me more about it? Though I'm not a total nooB, i'm not as young as I once was and some things I don't get straight away. Smiley

Thanks Sylvanaar. Smiley

I may have missed a check here or there, so, no dont expect it to work w/o prat without a couple fixes. If the author chooses to add it in, then yeah, that would work with or without Prat, since the missing checks would get put in.

Wow... um... Prat just has way tooo many options.

I wish I could download each of the modules I want to use separately, then I could kind of like build my own prat without everything just um, bleh, in my face with a hundred options.

~

Building a Prat I would like would include:
- No minimap icon. Far too many minimap icons as it is. I would somehow include the Prat menu option within the little chat icon on the edit box itself.

- I would download and install the following modules only:
--> modules\CopyChat.lua (love that copy icon in the chat - defaulted to on for all channels)
--> modules\PlayerNames.lua (love that Level:Name thing)
--> modules\UrlCopy.lua (love the url copy ability)
--> modules\Editbox.lua (defaulted to bottom - love the arrow key usage)
--> modules\History.lua (love the history)

That would be all I would want.

A simple non-intrusive, no-options, Prat-Basic.

Sure I can set Prat up to hide this and hide that and do this and do that.
I think the millions of options might just scare some people away from Prat. I know it did that for me. I went Woah... wtf... delete.

Then later at work I thought... hmm I love that copy feature and so I went through and modified that prat files commenting out what i didnt want and switching top to bottom, true to false, and not loading up the fu. Now I have my own little baby-prat that loads up without bugging me or showing me any options which my Guildies at least would love (add too many options and it just gets annoying for some of us).

So yeah I'll probably stick with this modded prat for now unless you are planning on releasing some form of Prat-Basic version with just the basics like spoken about above?

In any case, thanks for pointing Prat out, there are definately some great modules in there that I'm now using. Smiley

Prat is LOD you can load only the moduels you want and disable the others...its in the options. And as for the minimap button you should use Fubar as well. Way better then TitanBar.

"Sure I can set Prat up to hide this and hide that and do this and do that." <--- LOD - I know. Not my point. Try to cast your mind back to the more simplier person who doesn't know as much as you do know now. I hope my point wasn't missed. Even with as much as I know (which isn't nearly as much as most here), I still stand by what I said about Prat in the post before.

its in the options.

"in my face with a hundred options." <-- What I mentioned above. I'm sure you read it though. Smiley

And as for the minimap button you should use Fubar as well. Way better then TitanBar.

peace~

I don't like Fubar. I've tried it. I believe TitanBar is way better than Fubar. Different strokes for different folks. Everyone has their likes and dislikes; which brings me back to the Prat-Basic suggestion. Smiley

[Edit]
Maybe Prat should have a more default look and feel when it first installed instead of putting edit box up top and hiding buttons; making people freak out only to run to the cluttered minimap to find an icon that when right clicked, has a hundred different menus, which in turn, freaks out some people more. Then finally one finds how to put the edit box below, then sees a 'blizzard' skin option, but when clicked, the texture applies wrongly, stretched out of wack, which leads people like me, as said above, turning around and saying, oh stuff this - delete.

If I weren't as technically minded as I am, I wouldn't have bothered to redownload and edit it to load up what I want to load up and hide the rest.

But sure, you can just stick with things like: it's LOD, it's in the options. Use Fubar instead. But that won't make people like me change from using things which are simple and intuitive. Look at WIM for example. It has hundreds of options too. BUT, the difference is Pazza makes everything that is default feel nice, smooth, and easy to use. No one really needs to run off to the options upon first install of WIM. Later on, people can play and customise. But with Prat, it kind of loads up in reverse, in Advanced mode, hiding things, moving things, making people run to a menu that is even more freaky to look at. Do you see my point? I hope so. Smiley

Please do not misunderstand, I think it is amazing what can be accomplished with Prat, very good work in that regards, however, I believe there should be a basic version or the first installation of Prat should be very default without much change to where things are located. Sure you can scroll up and down with the mouse wheel; we don't know that on initial installation.

Perhaps Prat needs some initial options when first installed?
[ This is your first time using Prat? [ Yes ] / [ No ] ]

If Yes:
[ Would you like a Minimap Icon? [ Yes ] / [ No ] ]
[ Prat allows you to use mouse wheel to scroll the chat frame, do you wish
to keep the scroll buttons on the left of the chat window? [ Yes ] / [ No ] ]
[ Prat has an icon that can be displayed within the chat window;
it allows you to copy the text of that chat window. You want this? [ Yes ] / [ No ] ]

Could even show examples of these things, like the icon in the chat window, could be a picture so people can see what they are clicking yes or no to.

A simple /Prat command that could pop up an options GUI like WIM would be nicer than a right click menu filled beyond its capacity should be.

I'm only throwing ideas out here. Smiley

Did you see the Presets? You can just choose one of them, and it configures everything.

Also, prat is modular. You can just delete the modules you dont want...i just made it so that you can achieve the same thing in-game.

Eventually i found the presets and none of them were defaultish enough for my guildies.

I literally had to go in and edit the 'default' setting with a real 'default' setting forit to be more, defaultish. Tongue

Had to do that for it to be more user-friendly for me (whilst the other modules I didn't really want were disabled by <!-- comments --> in the xml. Now the guildies don't have to freak out when I introduce them to prat ^_^

[edit]

Don't be offended. Please. I'm just keeping it real and telling ya how it is from a standard non uber elite user viewpoint. You can choose to read what i've written and see if it helps see things from another viewpoint, or can just ignore it. Either way, prat is indeed good, I just had to set it up to load up for non-elite users so I don't scare my guildies with it.

Well, submit your saved variables, so we can add them as a preset.

Or better, have a look at Presets.lua, and add your preset to it, and send me a copy. You just copy/paste your saved vars into Preset.lua along with some boilerplate code.

Well the above posted is just that. Smiley From my saved variables and pasted into the preset.lua over-writing the default one you had there.

God damn I love the ability to scroll my window, copy my window, and use arrow keys to move in the edit box >_> =D
Thanks to prat for that. Smiley

Give it a name, and add it so that it is its own preset, and I'll add it to the distribution.

You know - alot of Prat users are just like you - they want things a certain way (but thier way is totally different from yours, or any onther user's). Look how I configure mine "Sylvaan's Basic Setup"

I understand that Sylvanaar, but my point is it's stock standard Blizzard Default feel that doesn't scare anyone.

All three of your *cough* defaults, including your own version, was to me: 'what the frell' type responce.

Enough to initially make me delete Prat from my pc the first time i saw it.

So again, getting back to the initial point: DEFAULT initialisation. <--

Smiley

After the initial loading of prat which should not alter too much visually from where the DEFAULT things should be, users can THEN alter their settings.

That is my point. I hope you see it. =)

Either way, if you feel a default initial look ain't good, or feel a prat-basic idea ain't good, no problems man, i've got it modifed now so I'm all good and my guildies are all good Smiley

Cheers for listening though. =)

I hear you. If you can set it up wholly within Prat (so that the complete config is in teh settings) - there's no need to delete the modules, and we can just add it to the presets module, send me a copy.

Though you've added a template, you've still missed the point. Smiley

But thank you.

Check Reply #21 of mine for more options maybe missed.
Check my other posts, re-read them, for more of the points that may be missed. Smiley

Yes I type a lot, so don't skim them, read them. If skimmed, then pointless reading as skimming will miss the points. How do I know people skimmed? When people talk about Prat Being Modular, after I've already addressed that in my long winded posts, twice, then I know people haven't read. Smiley
